All Points Broadband and Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative announce partnership to extend fiber-to-the-home broadband in Northern Loudoun County

Leesburg, Va. –All Points Broadband and Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) have reached an agreement that will support All Points’ efforts to extend fiber-to-the-home broadband service to more than 1,000 homes in northern Loudoun  County. The initial locations targeted for service are within or adjacent to NOVEC’s service territory. Those sites do not currently have access to fiber-optic, gigabit-capable broadband.

Between now and September 15th, eligible households in the project area will be contacted by mail and encouraged to pre-register online. Doing so allows All Points to evaluate demand and determine whether construction of the last-mile fiber network can proceed. If there is sufficient customer demand, All Points would commence construction in early 2021. Interested consumers should pre-register their locations and subscribe to project updates at: https://fiber.allpointsbroadband.com.

“Because of COVID-19, the imperative of ensuring universal access to high quality broadband has never been more clear than it is today,” said Phyllis J. Randall, Chair of the Loudoun County Board of supervisors. “This innovative partnership between two local organizations is an important step towards achieving that objective, and we look forward to supporting its continued progress.”

“We are pleased to announce this unique partnership that will leverage NOVEC’s existing middle-mile fiber infrastructure and position All Points to deliver fiber-optic broadband to more than 1,000 underserved households in Loudoun County,” said Jimmy Carr, CEO of All Points Broadband. “All Points and NOVEC have been collaborating to expand broadband in Loudoun for many years, and today’s agreement is the fastest and  most economical way of expanding fiber-to-the-home broadband in this underserved area of Loudoun County.

“As a member-owned and customer-focused energy cooperative, NOVEC is committed to investing in the communities we serve,” said Stan Feuerberg, President & CEO of NOVEC. “The need for high-quality, high-speed broadband has never been more in demand than it is today, and NOVEC is pleased to collaborate with All Points to increase access to broadband for some of our Loudoun County customers.”

Under the agreement announced today, All Points will design a new fiber-optic network that leverages excess capacity in NOVEC’s proprietary fiber-optic network. NOVEC built and uses the 333-mile network to efficiently monitor and manage aspects of its 7,400-mile electric infrastructure.

“This initiative aims to extend fiber-optic broadband into areas of Loudoun where there is relatively lower population density and challenging terrain from a deployment perspective,” said Carr. “We intentionally selected areas where consumers do not have access to cable or fiberoptic broadband today. In order to proceed with construction, we need to verify that there is sufficient interest to make this a viable network—so we are asking potential subscribers to visit the project website to register their locations and indicate their interest. If we have a strong  response in the next 30 days, we should be in a position to commence construction early next year.”
